Prambanan Temple

Prambanan, also known as Candi Prambanan in Indonesian and in Javanese ꦫꦫꦗꦺꦴꦁꦒꦿꦁ (Rara Jonggrang) , is a 9th-century Hindu temple complex located in the Special Region of Yogyakarta in southern Java, Indonesia. This site is dedicated to the Trimūrti, which represents the Hindu Trinity: Brahma the Creator, Vishnu the Preserver, and Shiva the Destroyer. The temple complex is situated about 17 kilometers (11 miles) northeast of Yogyakarta, straddling the border between Central Java and Yogyakarta provinces.

Designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple site in Indonesia and the second largest in Southeast Asia, following Angkor Wat. The complex is renowned for its tall, pointed architecture typical of Hindu design, featuring a central temple that stands 47 meters (154 feet) high within a large collection of temples. Originally, the Prambanan complex comprised 240 temple structures, showcasing the splendor of ancient Javanese Hindu art and architecture and is celebrated as a masterpiece of Indonesia’s classical period. The site attracts numerous visitors from around the globe.
